I’m in Puppy Love!

Hollywood knows a thing or two about puppy love. Remember Benji? What about Astra, the family pup on The Jetsons? Then there’s Scooby Doo. And who could forget Lassie?

What do all these canine stars have in common?

They’re full-grown Hollywood dogs—either real or created by talented imaginative minds.

But as famous as these dogs are, “The Big Dogs” of the canine world will always be puppies.

Puppies are so adorable and loving that musicians have threaded their songs with puppy lyrics.

In 1960 Paul Anka wrote and sang Puppy Love, a romantic melody. Perhaps the first line is what we remember the most: “And they called it puppy love.”

Twelve years later, Donny Osmond, at age 14, turned the heads of teenage girls across the globe with his version.

But while Donny turned heads, Cavapoo puppies turned hearts. And they still do.

A little ink about their origin may be in order.

The Cavapoo was developed in Australia in hopes of producing a hypoallergenic dog to aid allergy sufferers.

The mix between a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel and either a Toy or Miniature Poodle resulted in puppy love!

The Cavapoo is one of the oldest designer dogs, being first bred in Australia in the 1950’s. Its popularity continues to spread throughout the world.

Now, just what is it about Cavapoos that makes us fall in love with them?

Their Small Size

The most common Cavapoos come in two sizes: the Toy and the Miniature. There’s also the Cuddle Cavapoo that can reach up to about 40 pounds!

The Toy Cavapoo can grow up to 12 inches tall at the shoulder and usually weighs 7-13 pounds.

The Mini Cavapoo will normally reach 12-16 inches in height at the shoulder and will weigh around 15 to 30 pounds.

This small breed can romp and play in the house without becoming a wrecking ball like the dog “Snot” in “Christmas Vacation.”

The Cavapoo’s petite size is one reason why we fall in love with them!

A “Gentle as a Dove” Disposition

You’ll love Cavapoos because of their gentle disposition.

If you have children, you should especially consider this canine breed.

They’re gentle, mild mannered, and excellent with kids.

They get their mild disposition from their King Charles Cavalier Spaniel parent.

They’re “teddy bears” that love to snuggle.

You’ll instantly fall in love with a Cavapoo puppy!

Ability to Learn Tricks and Obey Commands Easily

You should love this breed because of their ability to quickly learn tricks and obey commands.

Cavapoos owe their impressive intelligence to the Toy or Mini poodle.

The poodle is among the most intelligent of dog breeds.

And because of their innate ability to please, Cavapoos will sit, lay down, rollover, play catch, and perform other tricks on command.

Their desire to put on a show will add hours of recreational fun for all members of the family.

They become the star of the family. And we’re prone to falling in love with stars!

Astounding Beauty

Why are Cavapoos so lovable?

Because this puppy breed is BEYOND beautiful.

They are coated with a variety of colors such as tan, red, white, apricot, black, bi-color, and tricolor.

Their beauty makes them irresistible!

You won’t be able to keep your hands off them.

Their big puppy-dog eyes, floppy ears, and round faces will stop your heart.

And they call it puppy love!

Generally Hypoallergenic

Well, here’s a big plus that you’ll love!

Cavapoos are primarily hypoallergenic, a trait received from its poodle mix.

While not guaranteed, the chance of having an allergic reaction while holding your awesome puppy is low.

That means no Benadryl and no trips to the ER.

You’ll enjoy years of brushing, snuggling, and playing with your Cavapoo without respiratory problems.

Just one more reason to fall in love with this remarkable breed!

Low Shedding

Park the vacuum cleaner in the closet!

Your day of endless vacuuming is over.

Cavapoos are low shedding.

This time-saving feature can be tracked back to the Cavapoo’s poodle parent.

Their tightly coiled hair stays on their bodies and not on the floor!

Because you’re not cleaning, you’ll have more time to play with your puppy.

Easy to Potty Train

Our Opie potty trained himself soon after we brought him home.

He was 10 weeks old!

I’m convinced that he’s not the only one achieving this hygienic milestone!

Because of their super cognitive ability and the desire to please, you won’t have to worry about getting a migraine while potty training your Cavapoo.

A Servant Heart

Cavapoos make great emotional support dogs because of their easy-going and social nature.

In this role, Cavapoos offer better mental health to the depressed.

They are also superb therapy dogs, making rounds to encourage autistic kids, hospital patients, and the elderly.

The Cavapoo is a giving breed, lifting and encouraging the spirits of those who’re struggling with mental and physical health problems.

Who wouldn’t fall in love with such a caring breed!

A Healthy Breed

Because the Cavapoo is a crossbreed, it is generally a healthy dog.

Crossbreeds don’t have the genetic issues that purebred dogs have.

That’s good news for your Cavapoo and your pocketbook due to fewer trips to your local veterinarian.

Social Butterflies

Cavapoos never meet strangers.

They’re social butterflies, loving to be around all people and animals.

They are labeled as lapdogs and Velcro dogs due to their insatiable desire to be with their owner.

When friends, relatives, or complete strangers drop by, you won’t have to worry about your pup getting in attack mode.

A Long Life

This breed has an average life span of 10-15 years.

It’s possible that with good care a Cavapoo could live 20 (human) years.

Using a chart developed by the American Kennel Club, that’s an incredible 96 years in dog years!

Your Cavapoo will be around for a long, long time providing you with companionship, entertainment, and love.

Conclusion

So, there you have it! Ten practical reasons to be a Cavapoo owner.

You’ll have a furbaby that’ll be devoted to you for life.

Let’s end this article the way we began.

“Puppy Love” isn’t just a song lasting for just a few minutes.

It’s a way of life for the Cavapoo and his human family.

Now, don’t you want to make that drive to a reputable breeder and select your Cavapoo puppy?

He’ll fill your life with puppy love!
