July 4th or Independence Day is one of the major holidays in our nation. Every year on that date we celebrate our independence from Great Britain.
Workers enjoy the day off by sleeping late.
Families grill out (weather permitting).
And then as the sun bows out for the day, we gather at our local firework extravaganza!
Thousands of dollars are dolled out in cities and towns across our country to celebrate the freedoms we enjoy.
But now reflect for a moment about the real meaning of July 4th!
July 4, 1776-the birthdate of our nation
The date is seared in our minds.
On that date the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence signed by the 13 American colonies thereby cutting our political ties with Great Britain.
And each year we celebrate that date!
The boom, the artistic flair of sparks bolting through the dark sky, and in the background Lee Greenwood’s perennial song “God Bless the USA” excites the crowd. All the above working together moves us to be so thankful for our nation.
